Mutual funds such as T. Rowe Price Small-Cap Stock F (OTCFX), T Rowe Price Small-Cap Stock Fund (OTIIX), and T Rowe Price Mid-Cap Growth Fund (RPTIX), generally move with the S&P 500 Index ( $SPX (Daily)). If $SPX goes up .5% from the prior day, these mutual funds usually go up or roughly track the $SPX movement, at least since August 2019.

On Friday, December 13, 2019 (just notice it was Friday the 13th), OTCFX price dropped from 54.26 to 51.35 (down 5.67% in one day) while $SPX went from $3168.57 to $3168.80 (a 0.01% gain). OTIIX, RPTIX, and presumedly other mutual funds also dropped a whopping 5%+ on close on Friday, December 13, 2019.

What do you think happened to cause such a massive one day drop in mutual fund price on December 13, 2019?

Thanks for writing.

If you go to https://www.dividendinvestor.com/dividend-history-detail/otcfx/

you will see that many Mutual Funds paid out a Dividend and Capital Gain in December ($2.80 total for OTCFX).

The Price is lowered by $2.80, and you will either receive Cash or more shares.

Go to the Fund website for more info.

Good trading, and tell your friends!
